In addition to its work in the agricultural sector, TUKOMEZANYE MUYINGA COOPERATIVE has provided Medical Assistance Cards (CAM) to over 100 vulnerable families, including both members and non-members of the cooperative. This initiative has been welcomed by the beneficiaries and the leaders of the AEVCPV association.
Five thousand Burundian francs, comprising 4,000 francs for the CAM and 1,000 francs for the ambulance service subscription, is the amount paid by TUKOMEZANYE MUYINGA COOPERATIVE to ensure healthcare for each of the most vulnerable member families, as well as other vulnerable individuals in their community.
Mrs. Ndorimana Espérance is one of the beneficiaries of these cards. She is a mother of 5 children and was abandoned by her husband, who has been in Bujumbura for years. This vulnerable woman received a CAM card provided by TUKOMEZANYE MUYINGA COOPERATIVE, even though she is not a member. For her, this cooperative came at just the right time. “Before, I couldn’t get treatment for myself or my children. When we fell ill, we would look for medicine in pharmacies, and we couldn’t even afford a full course of treatment. But today, with this card, we can get proper medical care,” she testified. Ndorimana Espérance thanks the cooperative’s leaders and implores them to continue their support.
This initiative is in its 1st year, but according to J. Claude Hategekimana, the cooperative’s manager, it should continue and benefit even more families. “As long as we have the means, we will continue to assist the most vulnerable of our members and some of their neighbors, and we even plan to expand the list,” declared J. Claude Hategekimana, the cooperative’s manager.
Jean Marie Bigirumuremyi, president of the AEVCPV association, congratulates the leaders of TUKOMEZANYE MUYINGA COOPERATIVE. He believes it is the most dynamic of the cooperatives that are members of the AEVCPV Association. He calls on the Association’s members to support this cooperative in Muyinga province by all means so that, in turn, it can continue to be the association’s torchbearer.
Recruiting from northeastern Burundi, TUKOMEZANYE MUYINGA COOPERATIVE is the largest of the AEVCPV member cooperatives. It has over 450 members and continues to welcome others. The number of its members is far superior to that of other AEVCPV members.
